The Elizabeth Times

I am a performing artist, specifically an actress. All my life, I have felt different and unique but growing up that is not always seen as  the most wonderful thing to be. I am Elizabeth Lee. I am passionate, hardworking, skilled, and ready to create. Performance has been my niche ever since I was very young. The heart of a performer is unlike other because we entertain to inspire others to be their most genuine form of self and to express freely. The vulnerability required to act can be mentally draining but spiritually rewarding. I have been acting seriously since the 7th grade and have recently decided to turn my passion into a career by pursuing my training at the college level to receive my BFA in Acting. Fear is definitely the enemy of progress, but, as a performer, failure is inevitable and so is success. If it is meant to be mine, it will be. After receiving my acting degree, I am not sure where I will land. Of course, my dream is to do professional theatre on Broadway in New York. But, honestly, I just want to do theatre for the rest of my life. Whether that be at a playhouse in Pasadena or directing children’s theatre in Kansas, I know that theatre will always be a part of my creative pillars as a woman of God and a person simply trying to figure out life.

As for my other goals, I would like to use my vegan lifestyle as an outlet to ignite change in environmental and sustainability studies. I used the medium of newspaper and glue to reflect my value of eco-sustainability and because I believe one day I will make headlines and pave the way for other young, African American actresses. This project was wonderful because it allowed me to put all my goals in one place and see them laid out as if it were a map to success.

Lastly, I want to leave you with an idea: Never strive for perfection, strive for excellence. For excellence allows room for growth but time for recognition. Be excellent.

  1. yo, your collage is special because it has all of these creative features that are entirely made by your hand alone. The watercolor detail, newspaper cutouts, and playbill font are all unique and special to you (and look amazing as well). Can't wait to see how your dreams unfold.

  3. I like the use of newspaper clippings in the background. The way you cut out the basic shape of the white main bits is also nice. I also like the silhouette of the city. Good job.

  4. Dear Elizabeth,
Your piece has so much character and it gives me the feels. The newspaper background makes me feel like I'm in a movie and they have a good one minute section of newspapers being thrown on the screen with such important news. The splash of color on the separate words/phrases make me think that your going to add color to the entertainment world. Liz, you are such an inspiration!
